Midland Freight knows a thing or two about logistics. But relocating its own business presented a different challenge: moving a large transport operation without losing valuable business time.
The long-standing Next Tech Group customer was moving across the highway to Lowen’s Lane in Benalla. It was a short journey, but a significant undertaking. The technology supporting its daily operations needed to be ready for the team to get straight back to work.
The plan was simple. Close at the old premises on Friday and open at the new location first thing Monday. Making that happen took careful planning, coordination and a team committed to getting the job done.
For a busy transport business, a relocation cannot come at the expense of keeping customers connected and operations moving.
Midland Freight needed its phones, internet, office equipment and security systems working at the new premises ahead of Monday morning. The move also involved upgrading several systems, adding another layer of coordination to an already ambitious deadline.
Next Tech Group worked closely with Midland Freight’s management team, Emma Cavalot and Scott Benson, through a series of project meetings. Together, they planned the technology and security requirements around one clear priority: keeping the business operational through the transition.
Next Tech Group coordinated the technology relocation and upgrades, bringing the different systems together as part of one planned move.
A new cloud phone system was introduced, with some existing hardware repurposed as part of the upgrade.Wi-Fi, NBN, network and data infrastructure were also upgraded, alongside cyber security measures and backup internet infrastructure to support reliable connectivity at the new premises.
The relocation provided an opportunity to update Midland Freight’s security across the property.
A newer alarm system introduced mobile app access and remote functionality. The new access control system included mobile app badging and integration with the site’s boom gates, helping the team manage entry to the premises.
An upgraded CCTV system brought new cameras and video management software into place to support site monitoring.
The new boardroom was equipped for video conferencing, while workstation upgrades included 49-inch curved monitors and displays.
Midland Freight also upgraded to a Konica Minolta multifunction printer capable of 45 pages per minute, supporting everyday printing and copying needs at its new home.
The aim was to be ready for Monday. By late Friday, Midland Freight was already operational at both locations.
That overlap helped the business transition to its new premises without waiting until Monday morning to get its technology running. The team could complete the move knowing the systems were in place ahead of the planned reopening.
Director Emma Cavalot praised the Next Tech Group team’s commitment to meeting the deadline.
"Cody, Luke and Brendan they were just here until the job got done. The aim was to be closed Friday and open Monday but we were operational in both sites overlapping by late Friday.’’
Emma Cavalot, Director, Midland Freight
For Midland Freight, the outcome was more than a successful relocation. The business moved into its new premises with upgraded technology and security, backed by a team that understood how important it was to keep operations moving.
Support continued after moving day, with Next Tech Group helping fine-tune camera angles and positioning, provide training and make adjustments as the team settled in.
That ongoing involvement helps Midland Freight get comfortable with its new systems and make the most of its investment.
"Working with Next Tech Group was easy from start to finish. They knew what we needed and the guys knew exactly what they were doing.”
